About Dominica

Dominica (whose indigenous name is Waitukubuli - which means "tall is her body") offers tourists a very different kind of experience. Known widely as the Nature Island of the Caribbean, Dominica is known for its rain forests, 365 rivers, one of the largest boiling lakes of the world, medicinal sulphur springs among so many other natural features.

You will not find golden sand beaches nor high rise chainĀ hotels. What you will find instead, is a mountainous and green country where the beaches have black sand and all the hotels are small and family owned and run!

This island has a population of approximately 72,000 people ready to welcome you to our untouched island. Dominica is perhaps one of the last Caribbean islands to delve into Tourism and so for you to visit means you are seeing it at its most virginal state.

Dominica is an independent country where we speak English but we can also converse in Creole, and to a lesser extent, Spanish and French.

The currency is Eastern Caribbean Dollars (EC$) which converts at US$1 = EC$2.67.

We Dominicans like a good time and are not very showy people, which explains why you may not have heard a lot about us as the other Caribbean islands, but we are warm people and we look forward to welcoming you to the Nature Isle of the Caribbean.
